I'm not sure! There is a legend behind it, apparently, but I don't know if it's particularly tied to the date or season. But there is a certain species of octopus appearing in large quantities around the beach, so it seems likely that is the reason for the timing. I intend to do further research at the library to see if there is any more to it, though. (As for Valentine's, I have no idea whatsoever. It may be just a coincidence that they are at more or less the same part of the year.)
Do you want to go to a restaurant and try a seasonal octopus specialty? Or shall we go down to the beach, and make a meal of what the seaside vendors have on offer? (I should mention that they also have setups for people to catch and prepare their own food, but I don't think there would be any partner discounts for that, and I also do not know how to catch or prepare octopus)
